Human-Centered Robotics and Neurotechnology Lab

We build closed-loop human-robot systems: robots that continuously infer the cognitive and affective state of the people they work with and adapt their decisions in response. By coupling neurotechnology, including EEG-based brain-computer interfaces, eye tracking, and physiological sensing, with robot decision-making and learning, we let signals such as attention, workload, perceived safety, and trust directly shape how robots plan, act, and communicate. Our testbeds span collaborative manipulators, aerial robots, and social robots.

Research areas

Neural and Physiological Decoding of Human State

Estimating attention, cognitive workload, intent, and trust from EEG, eye tracking, and physiological signals in real time, using machine learning models that remain reliable during natural, physical interaction with robots.

Human-Aware Robot Decision-Making and Learning

Closing the loop between human and robot: decision-making and learning methods that use decoded human state as feedback, so robots adapt their speed, proximity, autonomy, and communication to the person in front of them.

Perceived Safety and Trust in Human-Robot Teaming

Characterizing how people judge the safety and trustworthiness of collaborative manipulators and aerial robots, and turning those judgments into measurable objectives for robot behavior.
